FOCUS Cayo Evo 2.0: off to a great start with a successful test
For the first time, Tour magazine tested a group of bikes, all of which were equipped with Shimano Ultegra Di2 gears. FOCUS sent in its completely redeveloped Cayo Evo frame to do battle with the others and was highly praised.
Tour had just one criterion for the test, namely that bikes must be equipped with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset. No surprise then that a colourful assortment of bikes turned up to be tested. The prices of bikes tested ranged from € 2,750 to almost € 5,000, which means that the FOCUS Cayo Evo is one of the cheapest models available with electronic shifting. The Ultegra Di2 groupset is superb in terms of its extreme precision and the light touch required to shift gear. However, since all of the bikes were equipped with the same system it could not be a distinguishing feature, and so it was up to the frame and other equipment to score the points. The new Cayo Evo frame did an outstanding job in this respect; thanks to the new FOCUS styling and the fantastic test lab results relating to stiffness and comfort, the frame succeeded in securing a high score. This resulted in a final overall rating of 2.1. The frame even managed a score of 2.0.
15 bikes were tested, and two of them were awarded a score of 1.8. The whole test report can be found in: Tour, issue 12-2011
