Suspension

I want a different fork. What do I need to take into account?
Our advice is to use the specced fork because we optimised it for the bike's kinematics and its use case. If you want to change your fork, the one you choose has to be approved for 150 kg system weight by the manufacturer. The headset is sized for fork steerer with 1 1/8" - 1,8". Please check the steerer dimensions of your new fork and choose the matching base plate. You can get the matching base plate by our dealer. The travel must be 170 mm. Also check all other standards like post mount, axle dimensions, etc. In case you are in doubt, ask your local FOCUS dealer.
I want a different shock. What do I need to take into account?
Our advice is to use the specced shock because we optimised it for the bike's kinematics and its use case. If you still want to change it, you should speak to your local FOCUS dealer and try if another one fits. As there are many shock models in the market, we cannot guarantee that another one will work. The shock dimensions are 230 x 62,5 mm // 25 x 8 / no bushing.
How much travel has the FOCUS SAM²?
The FOCUS SAM² has 170 mm of travel at the fork and 160 mm at the rear triangle.
What is the spring rate of the coil shock?
The spring rate is different for each size. You can find this information for each size in the specs under ‘Damper’.

Technology

Doesn't the FOCUS SAM² feature a flip chip?
Yes, if you want to customise the SAM² to your individual requirements, you will get your money's worth. Thanks to headset cups and FLIP CHIP in the rear triangle, various geometry combinations are available and easy to customise.
With the headset cups, the steering angle can be varied between 63.5° and 64.5°: the flatter the more stable and the steeper the more agile is the simple formula. This allows you to adjust the steering angle to suit your riding style and the terrain. Particularly good: this also works with the fully integrated cables without any hassle and without hours of fiddling.
With the FLIP CHIP in the rear triangle, you can choose between 441 or 448 mm chainstays to tune the balance of the SAM². Rugged or stable – you decide! Both settings work with the same number of chain links.
We recommend the short setting with 441 mm for frame sizes S and M and the long chainstays with 448 mm for L and XL, but ultimately the decision is yours. Trying out is expressly encouraged! The difference, especially in cornering, is enormous.
I want to ride with less spacers. Is this possible?
Yes, it is possible to remove the spacers. Our integrated spacers, which the cables run through, are divisible. This means you don't have to open any cables. If you don't want to saw off your steerer tube directly, you can build round spacers on top of the stem. We recommend a round top cap in this combination.
To which bike classification does the FOCUS SAM² apply?
The FOCUS SAM² applies to condition 5: Enduro & Downhill bikes.
