The VAM² SL combines efficiency with a playful bike character. This light e-MTB will make you forget switching on your motor. And you won't even notice right away. Because every input you give is immediately transformed into forward movement. This is due to a flex pivot rear triangle that merges optimal flex behaviour and lightweight carbon layup. The kinematics will make you pace up hills while also giving you courage to descend fast due to its downhill capabilities. On top, this design gives the VAM² SL its seamless look that is completed by small details like an integrated headset cover and our upgraded cockpit solutions. Thanks to 130/125 mm travel and its direct handling, the VAM² SL makes you enjoy your home terrain in a new way, more like a giant pump track. Although it is a trail bike, the VAM² SL falls under Bike Classification 4. It is powered by the FAZUA Ride 60 e-drive unit, which provides a natural ride feeling, and comes with a 430 Wh battery. The VAM² SL is your e-MTB for more speed and smiles on your rides.

C.I.S. 2.0 & One Piece SL cockpit

What kind of stem do the different models have?
Our VAM² SL 9.0 and 9.9 debut the new One Piece SL Cockpit. VAM² SL 9.8 and 8.7 are equipped with our C.I.S. 2.0 MTB stem, the updated version of our previous C.I.S. (Cockpit Integration Solution).
What is the One Piece SL Cockpit?
The One Piece SL Cockpit is a full carbon stem handlebar combination that is as light as beautiful. It weighs 290 g with a standard width of 800 mm but can be shortened to 760 mm. It has a virtual length of 50 mm and 25 mm of rise.
Can I retrofit the One Piece SL cockpit to the VAM² SL 9.8 and 8.7?
If you already own a FOCUS bike and would like to retrofit it with the One Piece SL cockpit, you can also purchase this separately (Art.No. 210002600). Please contact your local dealer about this. Please also note that this is only possible for bikes with integrated cable routing and acros headset.
Which other bikes can I retrofit with the One Piece SL cockpit?
This is possible on all bikes with integrated cable routing and acros headset.

Carbon

What do I do in case of material damage at my bike?
Judging a damage from the outside or based on a picture is almost impossible. In case of damage, you should visit your dealer.
What is MAX Carbon?
Our Carbon technology optimises the stiffness-to-weight ratio of bikes. As the MAX Carbon layup contains a significant amount of high modulus fibres, it takes optimisation even one level further. This layup saves even more weight than our carbon layup without compromising on stiffness.

Dimensions / Standards

What kind of headset does the VAM² SL use?

eBike

Can I connect a light or other equipment to the battery? Is there a light cable already in the bike?
Yes, you can. Please contact your Dealer. However, there is no cable prepared internally.
Can I take the battery out?
No, the battery is integrated into the down tube and therefore cannot simply be removed. If the battery needs to be removed, the motor must be removed first. The best way to do this is to contact your nearest FOCUS dealer.
Can I change the battery to a smaller / larger battery?
No, that is not possible.
Can I connect my smartphone to the bike?
Yes, you can connect your smartphone via the FAZUA App. Within the FAZUA App you can change your support mode settings and download new profiles.
How far can I ride with the VAM² SL?
There is no definite answer to that. Different factors have an impact on your range: Your weight, gear, tire pressure, the terrain you ride, which support mode you prefer and even the temperature influence how long your battery will last.
Can I tune my e-bike?
No, that's not possible and even if it would, we do not recommend it.
Can I ride the VAM² SL without battery?
As the battery is permanently installed in the down tube of the VAM² SL, strictly speaking you cannot ride without a battery. However, it is possible to ride with an empty battery. You won't have any noticeable pedalling resistance. The only thing you will notice is the additional weight of the motor and battery compared to a pure bike.
Can I ride the VAM² SL with just a range extender?
No, this is not possible because the battery is permanently installed in the down tube.
Can I add a second battery or range extender?
You can't install a second battery. But you can install a range extender, which will be supplied by FAZUA in the future. Unfortunately, we can't tell you when that will be.
How much does the battery weigh?
The MY24 battery weighs 2.2 kg.
Where is the charge port for charging the VAM² SL?
The VAM² SL can be charged via a charge port on the seat tube.

No, you can't do that with the VAM² SL.
Does the VAM² SL have a storage box or bag, as is the case with other FOCUS bikes?
No, the VAM² SL does not have an integrated storage box, like the RAVEN, for example, nor does it come with a bag, like the JAM, ATLAS and PARALANE.
Can I attach a bike trailer?
No, we can't permit the usage of a bike trailer for our carbon rear ends.

Numeration

The FOCUS system of numeration
All bikes are labelled with two numbers which are divided by a dot. The number in front of the dot represents the frame material and its quality. The number behind the dot stands for the level of specification. Carbon is always attributed with the highest number: 9 stands for the highest quality carbon layup, 8 is an "eco" layup or carbon/aluminium mix. Our aluminium bikes start at 7 or lower.
Example: JAM 8.9
8.9: Carbon frame and aluminium rear triangle
8.9: the highest level of components within this frame platform
X.0 is an exceptional spec that might even represent a limited edition.

Parts

Does the VAM² SL have a chain guide?
Yes, a chain guide is already mounted. We use a specific mounting standard at the frame. You can also order these via the Art. No. 210002600. Please contact your local dealer for this.
Does the bike have a chain stay protector?
Yes, a chainstay protector is mounted.
Can I change to electronic shifting / mechanical shifting?
Yes, both is possible.
What to do, if I want to change from 29" to 27,5" or the other way around?
The VAM² SL is designed for 29" wheels exclusively.
Can I change the length of the stem?
You can order a different stem length via your dealer. All cables run directly into the frame below the stem, so you don’t have to open brake lines or shifting cables when changing the stem. But you should consider the following: Switching to a longer stem might require longer cables. Make sure the cables are long enough. Switching to a shorter stem might lead to long cables which could be shortened for a cleaner look. Here are all stem lengths with their order number:
Art. No. 250002700 C.I.S. 2.0 MTB stem 50 mm lang
Art. No. 250002600 C.I.S. 2.0 MTB stem 40 mm lang

Does the VAM² SL have a USB-C port?
Yes, the VAM² SL has a USB-C port so you can charge your phone or navigation system while you ride. It is hidden in the battery level indicator on the top tube. You have to lift the top of the display to access the USB-C port.

Suspension

I want a different shock. What do I need to take into account?
Our advice is to use the specced shock, as we have optimised the VAM² SL with this shock. If you still want to change, you should talk to your local dealer and pay attention to the installation dimensions. Only shocks with an installation dimension of 210x50, 25x8 mm on the shaft, no bushings on the body can be fitted. Under NO circumstances should shocks in other sizes be fitted, otherwise there is a high risk of frame damage. Coil shocks are not approved for installation.
What kind of suspension fork does the VAM² SL come with? Can I also use a different suspension fork?
We fit a 130 mm suspension fork to the VAM² SL. In addition, the VAM² SL is approved for a 140 mm suspension fork with a maximum installation length of 554 mm. If you want to install a different suspension fork, make sure that these values are not exceeded. If you convert to a 140 mm suspension fork, the steering angle will change to 64.5° or 65.5°. More information on changing the steering angle can be found under Dimensions/Standards.
How much travel has the VAM² SL?
The VAM² SL has 130 mm of travel at the fork (approved up to a maximum of 140 mm) and 125 mm at the rear triangle.
How do I adjust the spring rate of my shock? What is SAG?
SAG is a measurement unit to individually adjust the spring rate of your air shock. It indicates how much the shock compresses when you just sit on your bike without moving. You adjust the SAG by changing the air pressure in your shock with a special shock pump. Our SAG recommendation is 30% which corresponds to 15 mm. To see the actual percentage, please use the O-Ring that is placed on the shock. For detailed set-up recommendations for your shock, you can also check out pressure charts.

Technology

I want to ride with less spacers. Is it possible?
All cables run directly into the frame below the stem, so you don’t have to open brake lines or shifting cables when changing the height of your cockpit.
What is the difference between the 8. series and the 9. series?
The big difference is the different carbon layup of the respective frames, which is also reflected in the weight of the bikes. The MAX carbon frame of the 9. series weighs 2,172 g, while the frame of the 8. series weighs 2,545 g (both frames size M, including linkage and bolts). In addition, the VAM² SL 8.7 (as well as the VAM² SL 9.8) is not fitted with the One Piece SL cockpit, but with the C.I.S. 2.0 MTB stem.
Can I mount a bike computer or an action cam on the stem?
Every VAM² SL is equipped with an integrated, variable bike computer mount and a GoPro mount that can be attached to the bike computer mount.
To which bike classification does the VAM² SL apply?
The VAM² SL applies to condition 4.
Doesn't the VAM² SL have a flip chip? How do I change the head angle position?
No, the VAM² SL does not have a flip chip. You can change the head angle from 65° to 66° by changing the head angle cups.
