Stage victory for Napolitano and his Focus Cayo Evo in the Circuit de Lorraine

Carlos Alberto Betancur Gomez claims the polka dot jersey

This year has seen Team Acqua & Sapone put in a successful performance at the Circuit de Lorraine. On 19 May in particular, the team showed its true strength, going on to become the clear favourite in the 4th stage. Thanks to a well-controlled chase, the team was able to catch up with the breakaway group surrounding the Acqua & Sapone rider Betancur just ahead of the finishing line. Then, guided perfectly into position by his teammate, Claudio Corioni, Danilo Napolitano began his final sprint 200 metres before the finish. And the strategy proved successful! The Italian was able to celebrate his first victory of the season. “We were set on winning and, following the numerous rankings, this victory has served to strengthen our moral,” explained Napolitano later on. He went on to add: “Less than 10 days ago, I told the team that victory was in sight. The entire team had worked so hard and I felt that this was ours for the taking.”

The team performance is underscored by victory in the mountain classification. With 128 points and a clear lead over the second-placed rider, Nicolas Vogondy (Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne/with 45 points) Carlos Alberto Betancur Gomez left France wearing the polka dot jersey.
