Athlete of the Month

A ‘double double victory’

Triathlete Tim Lange is the March 2012 sportsman of the month

Generally speaking, the FOCUS Izalco Chrono time-trial bike is the ideal everyday bike and, above all, competition bike for triathlete Tim Lange. Sometimes, mainly in the winter, he opts to use a FOCUS MTB instead for training purposes. In March, however, he allowed his girlfriend, Scarlet Vatlach, to talk him into going with the wide tyres in competition too.

At the X-duathlon in Trier on 11th March he took the lead after the first five kilometres and then really attacked the 25-km MTB course. And what a course it was! “With 800 metres of climbing over 25 kilometres, the course had a fierce profile but offered good technical riding,” wrote Tim in his post-race report. After ten kilometres, the mountain bike specialists in the field reeled in the FOCUS triathlete and then proceeded to ratchet the pace up once again. “All I could think about then was just hanging on!” A glance at his heart rate monitor gave Tim, in his own words, one heck of a shock: “It took all my strength to cling on as far as the second transition area and pull my running shoes back on.” With his running shoes back on, our sportsman of the month was again able to show what he was made of. Tim was shoulder to shoulder with his teammate Felix Schuman from EJOT Team TV Buschhütten as they crossed the finish line, leaving the rest of the field in their wake. A double victory, which Tim’s girlfriend Scarlet and her sister Mignon replicated in the ladies’ event.

A splendid Sunday with a ‘double double victory’ for our March sportsman of the month.
