FOCUS is the first German bicycle brand to win the team classification in the Tour de France
FOCUS won the team classification for the first time at the 101st Tour de France through the UCI Pro team AG2R La Mondiale. It's a great coup for us, as it's the first time a German bicycle brand has had the honour of equipping the top team on the Tour. Another reason to celebrate: AG2R rider Jean-Christophe Péraud rode FOCUS to an outstanding second place in the general classification.
Thomas Raith, Chairman of the Board at Derby Cycle Holding GmbH was pleased at the achievements: "AG2R La Mondiale's results are mind-blowing. The team's fighting spirit in particular impressed me greatly. That and the performance of our bikes made these achievements possible. As one of the biggest manufacturers in the field, it is important that we constantly expose our bikes to the toughest professional conditions through the sponsorship of successful teams like AG2R La Mondiale. Feedback from the elite cyclists and the team helps us to constantly advance our products and drive innovation."
This was an historic event, not only for FOCUS but also for the AG2R La Mondiale team. The team has never done so well at the Tour: a podium finish, a sixth position in the general classification through Romain Bardet, a stage win through Blel Kadri and, with a great lead, a win in the team classification.
Of course, the FOCUS models did their bit in the team's success on the Tour, and were put through their paces in the process. "Romain Bardet and Jean-Christophe Péraud were glad of the great equipment especially after the time trial. They put in the best rides of their life on the FOCUS Chrono Max time trial bike," reports FOCUS Team Liaison Manager Martin Böckelmann. That goes for the FOCUS Izalco Max, too, which is the team's road racer. "The riders were happy with this bike from the outset," says Böckelmann.
