The FOCUS Mares AX 4.0 is the perfect counterargument. The new concept bike from the tried-and-tested cyclocross family is perfectly equipped for autumn and winter. It features tyres that are wider than those on a racer, mudguards, 10-speed Shimano Tiagra gears and mechanical disc brakes. Just clip on those lights and you’re off on a ride down rain-drenched streets, or perhaps taking a spin through the nearby woods.

The Mares AX 4.0 earned a great deal of praise for its all-round abilities in the winter editions of German cycling magazines. Both in “Tour” magazine’s individual test and in the “aktiv Radfahren” megatest which compares bikes against one another, the editors were clearly impressed with the FOCUS product managers’ concept. The magazine aktiv Radfahren rated the bike “Very Good” and tipped it as a great all-rounder. What’s more, the editors also attested to its four possible alternative uses: as an all-weather bike, for cyclocross, as a road racer (with 23-mm tyres) or as a trekking bike (with luggage rack and lights). And what do specialist cycle shops have to say? “This is an interesting bike that immediately appeals to any sports cyclist. Why? Because it has the look of a racing bike, and yet at the same time is suitable for everyday riding,” explains specialist dealer Herr Friedrichs from the cycle shop Radwelt in Bielefeld.
