Team Jelly Belly en route to the Tour of California
April sportsman of the month
Team Jelly Belly is one of two US teams riding FOCUS bikes in 2011. Obviously, the real highlight of the season is the Tour of California in the team’s own country. Preparations for the stage race (which runs from 15 to 22 May) are going brilliantly. Below is a brief look back over recent weeks.
Everyone knows that Team Jelly Belly is not going to the Tour of California as the top favourite to win in either the day stages or the overall race. However, recent weeks have shown that the team can indeed hope to perform well and tread a little on the toes of big names such as Radio Shack or HTC Highroad. Sean Mazich’s overall victory in the Tour of Murrieta in southern California has sent out a clear signal to the competition. Not least because the overall win was brought about by a tight-knit team performance and the tactical flair of the riders. People here are no longer talk ing about a ʽone-hit wonder’. The team was also in great form in the Redlands Classic and the Tour of Korea. The final highlight came courtesy of sprinter Brad Huff, who sprinted to victory in the Dana Point Grand Prix on 1 May.
Now there are just 10 days left before America’s most important road race. You can watch Team Jelly Belly battling for stage wins live on Eurosport.
