Rodriguez wins, Moreno is 2nd

Vuelta a Burgos second stage, a 144-kms-long one around the city of Burgos. Team Katusha has absolutely dominated: the Russian Team leader, Joaquim Rodriguez, was able to win today, and he's back to success after the double-win in Criterium du Dauphinè; while his teammates, Dani Moreno, reached the finishing line in 2nd place, 3'' far from 'Purito'. With a 7'' gap, Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), yesterday winner, completed the podium. The stage was characterized by a two-man-breakaway, De Ketele (Topsport-Vlaanderen) and Tortelier (Saur-Sojasun), reached with 30 kms to go by Simon (Caja Rural) and Verona (Burgos 2016). This four-rider-attack ended with 11 kms to go. With the group in lock step Team Katusha, just like yesterday, imposed his pace with Alberto Losada, Moreno but, most of all, Vladimir Karpets. With 1 km to go, Moreno and Rodriguez left the group: only Sanchez was able to stay with them, but 'Purito' quickened his pace with 500 metres to go for a solo win. Dani Moreno completed the today triumph, defeating Sanchez for the second position. Thanks to this peformance, Rodriguez is now the new general classification leader, waiting for the tomorrow TTT.

"I'm very happy about this result - says 'Purito' - finally, after several brilliant placings, I was able to take this great win that brought me to the first place in general classification. The team, today, once again, did an extraordinary work, as witnessed by the Moreno second position: we took the race into our hand in the last 10 kms, where all of my teammates did their best to make this happens. Tomorrow we have to confirm this brilliant shape for the team time trial: the course is short, so I don't think there will be huge gaps between teams. Anyways, we have to do our best to keep the general classification leadership".
