The “Via Francigena” is an ancient trail starting from Canterbury in England, crossing France, Switzerland, Italy and ending in Rome. It was travelled by pilgrims in medieval times on their long journey to the Vatican. This Sunday in Central Tuscany, at the Granfondo Castello di Monteriggioni, the Via Francigena was “assaulted” by almost a thousand bikers in the first important mountain bike race of the Tuscan calendar.
